However The Blazers would not be detered and had it to a 7 point deficit at the half behind Brennan Bennett (24 points). In the second half things would be nip an tuck as Geoff Ashton (12 points) and Joey McCann (22 points) traded inside buckets. The game appeared to be in hand with Western up 8 with 6 to play, when Jay McKinney swung the game. A Mitch Bajema (18 points) 3 fell away at the buzzer and it was time for overtime. In the OT Bennett was clutch in the paint and at the line as the Blazers held on to advance to semis!

The Birdmen paced by Derek Johnson's 20 points fought the good fight without star guard Niko Bryant. Jay Snow also had 18- in the loss. The Dolphins got 23 from Lloyd Kennedy, but the real story was Keenan Burke-Pitts who if the Dolphins were the 1980s movie Young Guns would usually be content to be Lou Diamond Phillips to Jeff Robinson's Charlie Sheen and Mitch Bajema's Emilio Estevez...Tonight Lou Diamond Burke-Pitts had 26 points and proved that I shouldn't write these while watching Encore3. The Dolphins will face the Dolphins next week while The Birdmen will play the Movers.

The Bandits took command over the first overtime behind Joey Laroche (21 points) and Jakyri Simpson (18) but with time winding down Brandon Jones (18 points) connected on a 3 of his own to force a second over time for Not Your Average Movers. In the 2nd overtime a Douliette 3 went just long as time expired. The Movers got great offensive production out of Mo Horton (20 points), Junior De La Hoz (22 points) and Troy Herrod (18 points). Shane Truddell who also fancies himself an offical added 20 in the W. The Horsemen will take on the Wet Bandits next week in a game with giant playoff implications, and 508 will play The Blazers.

Player of the Week: Troy Herrod Not Your Average Movers. Had 18 all from downtown, kept the Movers alive during the crucial second half Bandits run.

The Movers will take on The Wet Bandits next week while 508 Athletics will see the Horsemen.

The (1-1) Up-A-Ton will face The Birdmen after the bye week, while The Wet Bandits will face Western University Dolphins in a battle of unbeatens.

Birdmen 68, 508 Athletics 64
Birdmen held on in a sloppy affair. Jeremy Bridge posted 21 in the win for the Birdmen and Jay Snow had 18, but the story was Alvin Hall shattering his career high with 16 in the win. 508 had prodigious balance with Chris Sannicadnro with 12, Dan Bessa with 18, Bob Chalmers with 18 and Bri Whitten with 14.  The Birdmen will play Up-A-Ton next week we play while 508 will play Not Your Average Movers. Special note that this was Dan Bessa's final BVBL for quite some time as he relocates to North Carolina, a fond farewell to a true gentleman on the league.

The Dolphins evaded the upset despite 22 points from Danny Koen and 14 from Ben McAuliffe for the Horsemen. The Dolphin attack was headed up by Mitch Bajema with 25 points and Lloyd Kennedy with 17. Player of the Week: Junior De La Hoz, Not Your Average Movers. 29 points in a tightly contested game for the diminutive floor general.

9-9

Up-A-Ton 72, 508 Athletics 41
Behind the slashing drives of Terrell Newton (17 points), the inside play of Tony Berrecil (10 points), the streaky shooting of Tom Casey (12 points) and the alla round play of Colin Carr and Zach Adams (10 points each). Up-A-Ton raced to their first victory in the BVBL Fall Session. 508 Athletics were paced by Bobby Chalmers with 11, Dan Bessa with 9 and Chris Sannicandro with 9.  508 Athletics will face The Birdmen next week while Up-A-Ton will play The Wet Bandits.

Horsemen 61, Birdmen 51
In an old time 5 on 5 iron man game. The Horsemen held on for a 61-51 victory over the Birdmen. The Birdmen were lead by Niko Bryant with 18 and Jay Snow with 19, but the Horsemen attack of Jason Gosselin (20 points), Fran Defalco (14 points) and Ben McAullife (10 points) was too much as The Horsemen took the opener. They will face Western University Dolphins next week, while The Birdmen will face 508 Athletics.

Western University Dolphins 77, Not Your Average Movers 65
Despite 25 points and a show stopping put back dunk by Brandon Jones- Not Your Average Movers fell 77-65 to The Western University Dolphins. Wet Bandits 75, Blazers 74
The game of the night! This one was back and forth all night. A 44 all tie at the half...in the second the Blazers extended to as much as a 7 point lead, while The Wet Bandits had an 8 point lead of their own. In the final seconds however Jaykiri Simpson made a contested to layup to tie the game at 74 and was fouled, hitting the free throw to provide the margin of victory for The Bandits. Playoff Results 11/20

Semi Final 1:
Horsemen 77, The Gut 72

The Gut and The Horsemen faced off in a highly anticipated semi final game. The Gut came out on the offensive as usual paced by Jim Donnelly with 21 points and Junior De La Hoz with 19. The Horsemen however weathered the storm and came charging back behind Ben McAuliffe (22 points), Paul Powloski (17 points) and Shane Truddell with 18 points and held on late for the 77-72 victory launching them into the finals in their first year in the league!

Semi Final 2: Birdmen 81, Up-A-Ton 53

The shorthanded Up-A-Ton squad hung in early behind the inside play of Rob Scarpato (28 points) and the slashing drives of Seth Iadaorla (11 points). However there was too much Birdmen fire power in this one- Dominique Bryant had 23 points while Sam Fanfan chipped in 22 and Nefali Gonzalez added 15- as the Birdmen cruised in the second half to the finals.

Final: Birdmen 73, Horsemen 71 (OT)
An instant classic in the finals. The Horsemen jumped out early based on their balanced attack as Fran Defalco (8 points) and and Shane Trudell (14 points) got going early. The Birdmen counter punched with the play of Jeremy Bridge who did the bulk of their early scoring on his way to 13 points. The Horsemen made a run in the second half behind the shooting of Mac Roy (19 points) and the slashing play of Paul Powlowski (19 points). Late in the game the Horsemen looked to have it in hand, but a few missed throws and a 3 from playoff MVP Dominique Bryant (19 points) opened the door for Nefali Gonzaelz's (17 points) deep 3 to tie the game and send it to overtime. In OT play continued to seesaw. The Birmen's Eve St Cyr was fouled with 1 point lead, he hit the first to make it a 2 point lead, then air balled the second giving the Horsemen 9 seconds to work with. Mac Roy drove and found Paul Powlowski to tie the score at 71 all, however in the confusion after the free throws the Horsemen fouled intentionally with 4 seconds left in a tie game, sending Nefali Gonzalez to the line where he put the game away with 2 free throws. Great game, The Birdmen claim their first fall league title.

Thanks once again to all the teams and captains we'll see you in the freshly minted BVBL SPRING LEAGUE!

The Birdmen: Back Row (L to R) Eve St Cyr (behind Sam's fist), Sam Fanfan, Jay Snow, Jeremy Bridge
Middle Row: Dominique Bryant, Nefali Gonzalez
Front Row (seated): A Hall

Playoff Results:
11/13

Birdmen 67, Blazers 58

The Blazers got 18 from Jay McKinney and 16 from Zach Valliere but it was not enough to stem the tide of the balanced Birdmen attack. Nefali Gonzalez lead the way with 20 in the victory while Jay Snow added 17 and Sam Fanfan 12 as the Birdmen (6-2) advance to the semifinals. The Blazers conclude their season at 1-7 and The Birdmen will play in the 7 PM game next week.

The Gut 86, Douglas Waterslides 63

League MVP Ryan Cain had a pedestrian 28 points as The Gut opened up a 10 point halftime lead to cruise into the semis. Dan Koen added 17 while Jim Donnelly chipped in with 15 and Junior De La Hoz with 11 as The Gut advances to the semifinals to play #1 seed The Horsemen. The 'Slides got 30 from Justin Aldrich and 16 from Keenan Burke-Pitts in the defeat. Standout guard Mitch Bajema was attending the Catalina Wine Mixer and was unable to play. The Gut will play in the 6 PM game next week, while The 'Slides will pack away the yellow jerseys for another year.

Up-A-Ton 65, Worcester West 62

They are looting in the streets of Upton! From Bettanos to Woods Pharmacy, up to Applegates Weekend and over to...I'm running out of defunct Upton Landmarks...Anyways The game of the night in the BVBL was clearly this one. Worcester West behind the play of Dave Douliette (23 points) had a 7 point halftime lead in this one and it looked like business as usual. However Up-A-Ton (coming off 6 straight losses) showed increased balance and offensive poise and crawled back in behind the play of Bob Chalmers (9 points), Tom Casey (11 points) and the immovable object known as Rob Scarpato (26 points). The tide was turned on an under out of bounds play when point guard Jason Gosselin threw a lob to the rim that Scarpato caught and fired through for an emphatic dunk. Worcester West would not go quietly however with Joe Laroche (13 points, wreaking some havoc on both ends) and a few deep Jim Quinilven threes (10 points). In the end it was Scarpato's play down low and solid down the stretch free throw shooting from Gosselin that carried the day for Up-A-Ton. They advance to the 7 PM game vs The Birdmen on Sunday, while Worcester West concludes their season at 6-2.

Player of the Week: Rob Scarpato, Up-A-Ton. 26 points in the upset victory...when asked for a quote Rob replied "Scarpato SMASH! Scarpato SMASH!" thus frightening away the onlooking assembled media.
